Eighth Annual National Manufacturing Day

On Friday, October 25, 2019, Rensselaer’s Eight Annual National Manufacturing Day will begin in The Center for Biotechnology & Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) Auditorium at 8:15 pm with registration. The high school program will begin at 8:45 am with a welcome by James Nowak, PhD Mechanical Engineering graduate student with a keen focus on manufacturing. James will share a brief overview of his personal career path from a technical education in a Massachusetts high school to Rensselaer. Mr. Nowak will then introduce Dean Shekhar Garde, School of Engineering, who will share a welcome and speak about our innovative manufacturing program. Mayor Patrick Madden, of Troy will be invited to the stage to say a few words on the important role manufacturing plays within the economics of our immediate region. This year we are planning a panel of Rensselaer Alumni Champions of Manufacturing from different industry sectors such as pharmaceutical, renewable energy, chemical, and the transportation. All companies represented will share their perspective of manufacturing in America. The invited high school students will have an opportunity to ask questions. After the panel we will have an opportunity to witness the New York Army National Guard Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk landing (weather permitting) at 9:50 am in central campus’ 86 Field. Participants will be able to get up close to the Black Hawk during the lab tour segment of the day’s schedule. Following the helicopter landing, students will be divided up into undergraduate-led teams of approximately 10 - 15 students to explore different manufacturing related labs and student demonstrations across campus that focus on Rensselaer manufacturing facilities. This year’s program sponsors include Premier – Center for Economic Growth (CEG), Chief Executive Network Manufacturing (CEN), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Lockheed Martin. We could never bring this program without the support of the New York Army National Guard, Snap-on Tools, HFO-Allendale Machinery, ASME Rensselaer Student Chapter, City of Troy, the award winning - MILL/Manufacturing Processes and Systems Class, RPI Engineering Ambassadors and undergraduate volunteers. If your school is interested in attending, please email School of Engineering Educational Outreach at soeoutreach@rpi.edu. Share your name, school district, and contact information. We will include you on the mailing list and will provide more information when available.
